The GIS/ECO Online Screening Tool, created by Kyle Filicky, a Project Manager, and Jennifer Rokosz, a GIS Analyst, both in Pittsburgh’s Ecological Sciences practice, was honored with a CEC Innovation Award for its impact on project efficiency and data consistency.
This tool is transforming how environmental due diligence is done here at CEC. It’s built to streamline proposal development and reduce turnaround time. The tool allows users to upload a project area and instantly screen it against a wide range of environmental datasets. These include tribal jurisdictions, USFWS consultation zones, wetland inventories, FEMA floodplains, and hydrography data. It is powered by ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise platform, where the data is current and centralized.
The tool not only saves time and reduces costs but also supports training for field staff and new managers. Its scalable design means more features can be added as project needs evolve, making it a flexible and future-ready solution.
By combining ecological expertise with GIS technology, Kyle and Jennifer have created a tool that helps clients make faster, smarter decisions, and earned them well-deserved recognition for their innovation.
